Who are we?   How It Works 


The GLSC's affairs are run by a representative Governing Committee whose 13 members are elected at the Council's annual general meeting. Meetings of the Committee are presided over by a chairperson, who is also elected at the AGM.

The Governing Committee meets regularly in Kalgoorlie, where the Council's offices are located. 

The Committee decides the Council's policy and gives directions to the GLSC's executive management arm.

Day-to-day management of the GLSC's activities is the responsibility of the Executive Director, a salaried officer appointed by the Governing Committee. 

The Executive Director is supported in the day-to-day management by a sub-committee of elected office bearers (Executive Committee) and a team of dedicated and well-qualified staff which includes lawyers, anthropologists, historians, project officers and administrative personnel.

The GLSC's boundaries correspond to the jurisdiction of the former Wongatha Region of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Commission (ATSIC), which used to fund the GLSC but was disbanded in 2005. Funding is now received through the OIPC (Office of Indigenous Policy Coordination).
