GLSC to repay RFDS for its stand on 'Undies'

Goldfields Land and Sea Council staff will this Sunday (24th August) donate their time to raising money for the Goldfields Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Staff will be running a sausage sizzle and raffles at Bunnings’ store in Federal Road Kalgoorlie from 8.30am to 3.30pm on Sunday, with all proceeds to the flying doctor service.

Organiser and spokesperson Trish Ranger from the GLSC is urging the city’s residents to turn out in their droves.

‘The RFDS is a great cause at the best of times. This time it’s specially worthy because of the courageous stand it took against racism last February when it turned its back on the money raised by the tainted Undies 500 car rally.

“This Sunday will be our way of saying thank you to the RFDS, on behalf of Aboriginal people and the majority of the Goldfields community who believe these things are important,” said Ms Ranger.

As well as delicious hot sausages with a selection of sauces and cold drinks, there’ll be two raffles: one for a giant food hamper, including toiletries; and a second for a wheelbarrow full of gardening and handyman tools, valued at more than $400.

All raffle goodies and food for the sausage sizzle were generously donated by Goldfields businesses, including: Woolridge Educational Supplies, Sportslocker, Repco, L & W Mitre 10, Kleenheat Gas, Paul Robson’s Pharmacy, Bunnings, A1 Autos, Fanetti’s Autos, Cullen’s Butchers Coolgardie, Moran’s Store Coolgardie, Kmart, Toyworld, Pridmores Bakery, (More to come)
